November 2nd 2021 | Climate Equilibrium
Dear Everyone,
I've been reading and watching the news from the COP26 UN Climate Conference and there have been surprising moments of hope. Sir David Attenboroughs speech was a chilling reminder of the task we all have before us.
Unfortunately, the political negotiations that followed immediately reminded me of the nonsensical present situations. Our leaders fully embrace the seriousness of the crisis in so long as it gives them talking points. But, actually thinking wholistically about the world's systems and how they need to change in order to bring Earth towards an equilibrium that is habitable for humanity seems to be lost in the complexities of the present.
Frankly, I can't blame them. As I come to terms with my upcoming Presidency the converging factors of our interconnected world are overwhelming. The crises of today pale in comparison to the crises we are to face in the coming decades. To make matters worse, We the people resist change because we are comfortable in our ways. So how do you even start to explain that we change how we approach life in order to ensure it's continued thrive.
We need a paradigm shift not more platitudes and empty promises. Moving to a better future doesn't start with feel good stories about the next big innovation or hopeful speeches. It starts with difficult conversations about how we see ourselves now.
Sincerely, JT
