November 3rd 2021 | Virginia Gubernatorial and Political Punditry
Dear Everyone,
Glenn Youngkin has been declared the winner of Virginia's Gubernatorial Election. This is going to be parsed and analyzed by every pundit trying to stay relevant in the turbulent world of politics.
The voters of Virginia being used by our radiant media as a sounding board for political issues large and small is exactly what those voters wanted when they cast their vote yesterday. Voting is never about the race we are voting on it's about what we think of the direction of our state and the nation at large.
Whether we choose red or blue, we are making a statement, and it's up to our punditry to decipher that statement based on our collective actions, the ads of those we voted for, the local issues we may be for or against.
In this way we should always use the present to figure out what is going to happen in the future. Rather than taking the time to discuss the actual economic prospects of Virginians we should extrapolate how they feel about those prospects less we get mired in reality instead of punditry.
In the post-truth era it is not important want is so, it is merely important how we feel about what is so. It doesn't matter what critical race theory is or whether or not it is being taught in schools, it merely matters how we feel about that prospect.
As politics gets more divisive, We the People need to keep our eye on the prize. It doesn't matter the reality of the situation we find ourselves in, what really matters is how we feel about reality and whether or not others opinions offend us.
In this way we can all continue discussing nothing and moving nowhere as we argue over reactions over what has already happened and what it means might happen in the future according to people saying what they are hearing what people are saying.
There was also a gubernatorial election in New Jersey but it remains too close to call.
Sincerely, JT
