October 11, 2025 -- I understand your malaise.
I get it, there is an air of uncertainty and discomfort about for much of the country, and for the rest of the country there is an almost delusional level of confidence.
Like the confidence of someone who is trying to convince themselves of something but using you as the sounding board. Which is unsettling for both parties, much like showing someone a song you recently fell in love with, no reaction from them is going to satiate your thirst for the validation you already gave yourself but didn’t notice.
For the uncertain, i’m not sure what to say to quell your malaise, because I haven’t been able to abate mine. Even as I write these words I find my brain wondering towards inaction. That my words are bad, wrong, untrue, distructive, and most of all pointless. I’m going to keep writing them at least until the end of this song because its the song that reminds me of my son’s birth.
I have brought a beautiful child into this world and my wife and I are thinking about doing it again. He is the highlight of my day, daily. Yet I worry whether I will be able to take car of him. I have never had a job that felt like it would return the favor of my loyalty. I grew up in the age of layoffs, watching my parents lose their job to, at first maintain, and then to further the profitability of the company they worked at.
Now I see a run away Stockmarket (that tripped yesterday) that continues to decouple itself from the realities of the American economy. The current administration is American hubris exacted. We continue to distract ourselves as a country by the short-term consequences of our wide ranging actions. Meanwhile the long term consequences of our myopia are getting closer to bearing their presence on the present.
The current administration does seem to have a passing worry about the long term, but their actions are condescending and misguided. The canaries are singing everywhere, but the sky doesn’t look to be falling yet, and I’m always early.
Don’t vote for me. I just think there’s a third way.
Part 2: Guess I have more to say tonight.
When I look around it feels like too many people are disassociating. I think it’s because we lack purpose.
What do we have to prove anymore. That we’re the best country?
I agree, but let’s act like it rather than a bunch of petulant children who have no sportsmanship.
I think we should work towards remaking the world for ourselves long term. Let’s nest a bit before we fly out of the solar system.
